  1. Microsoft ActiveX Plug-in Read Me

ActiveX controls, now supported natively in Internet Explorer 3.0.1 for Macintosh, are similar to other browser plug-ins, but offer additional functionality such as transparent download and support for the Component Object Model (COM) open standard.  The ActiveX Plug-in allows older versions of Internet Explorer and other browsers that do not have native ActiveX support (such as Netscape¬ Navigator) to download and run ActiveX controls.

  5. Note:  Internet Explorer 3.0.1 for Macintosh does not require this plug-in because it has native ActiveX support.

  7. This beta version of the ActiveX plug-in requires some extra steps to install.

  9. To install the ActiveX plug-in:
  10.     Ñ  Place the ActiveX Plug-in into the Plug-ins folder of your browser.
  11.     Ñ  Move all of the library aliases from the ActiveX Plugin folder to the same folder as your browser application (not the Plug-ins folder).

  13. The aliases are necessary for the system to locate the beta versions of the libraries that the plug-in uses.  In the final version of Internet Explorer 3.0.1, the libraries will be installed in the Extensions folder, and no aliases will be necessary.
